Turkey Warns Its Citizens Amid Security Operation, Unrest in Mexico

(MENAFN) Türkiye’s Embassy in Mexico has advised its citizens to stay alert following a federal security operation that triggered unrest across multiple Mexican states.

According to reports, the embassy posted on the US social media platform X, stating that it is closely observing events that unfolded Sunday in Jalisco, Michoacan, Guanajuato, Tamaulipas, Aguascalientes, and Zacatecas. Turkish nationals were urged to exercise heightened caution, prioritize their safety, and adhere to directives from local authorities. The embassy also noted that it can be contacted through its emergency hotline at +52 557 917 7785.

The unrest followed a military operation by Mexican federal security forces targeting the Jalisco New Generation Cartel in Tapalpa, approximately 130 kilometers (80 miles) south of Guadalajara, Jalisco’s capital. Reports indicate that cartel leader El Mencho was killed during the operation.

In the aftermath, authorities reported numerous road blockages and incidents of vehicles and businesses being set on fire, believed to be retaliatory actions by the criminal group. The Jalisco state government responded by advising residents to stay indoors, suspending public transport, and issuing a “red alert” due to threats to public safety.

Recent days have seen a rise in violent incidents across several regions in Mexico, reflecting escalating tensions in the country.
