Pilot Program Launches in Mexico to Co-Build a Model of Centers of Excellence Between UNESCO, CONALEP, and DGETI

The goal of the project is to assess strategies and resources that strengthen campuses' capacities and gather lessons learned to build an innovative model to improve TVET quality. Each campus will be a node of innovation within its context through capacity development, digital talent, community engagement, and continuous improvement.

The results, including a specific roadmap for consolidating communities of practice and learning grounded in peer-to-peer work and youth leadership, will assess the conditions and possibilities for eventually scaling the model in Mexico to promote empowerment and productive employment among young people.

The model will also seek to inspire other schools and communities to adopt new tools and to extend it to other education systems in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The private sector and strategic partners will also join, together with the educational communities, including families, and ongoing technical support from UNESCO, throughout distinct stages of training and experience-sharing among campuses and with other countries.

The project is one of the actions of the Regional Alliance for Educational Transformation and Innovation (ARTIE), assembled by education secretariats and ministries from Latin America and the Caribbean, with the participation of public and private partners, such as the technology company Huawei.

The project's implementation in Mexico was determined by the country's mighty education system and its broad TVET coverage. It registered an enrollment of more than 1,9 million students between the ages of 15 and 18, served by over 199 000 teachers across close to 3 000 schools, and more than 90 technical career programs, for the 2024–2025 school year.
