Delta's Salt Lake City–Lima Nonstop Returns Dec. 1, Putting Peru One Overnight Flight From the Mountain West
Inca Trek by Destination Peru, the only U.S. and Peruvian-owned licensed Inca Trail operator, shares what Mountain West travelers should know before booking.
Peru used to mean two or three flights and a lost day for people out West. Now you can leave Salt Lake at night and wake up in Lima. That changes who can make this trip.”
WOODS CROSS, UT, UNITED STATES, November 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Delta's daily nonstop between Salt Lake City and Lima, Peru, returns Dec. 1 for a second winter season, running through Jan. 31, 2027. The route, Utah's only nonstop to South America, launched last December with a sold-out inaugural flight. Jared Snow, founder of Inca Trek by Destination Peru, says the route has changed who can realistically make the trip to Machu Picchu from the Mountain West.— Jared Snow, founder of Inca Trek by Destination Peru
That inaugural flight carried a World Trade Center Utah trade delegation of state business and civic leaders. Snow joined as a delegate and ended up running the Cusco and Machu Picchu portion of the mission, as the University of Utah's Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute reported. "This was about more than travel," Snow said. "It was about building bridges — between Utah and Peru, between business leaders, and between opportunity and execution."
"Peru used to mean two or three flights and a lost day for people out West," Snow said. "Now you can leave Salt Lake at night and wake up in Lima. That changes who can make this trip."
Inca Trek by Destination Peru is the only U.S. and Peruvian-owned company licensed to operate the Inca Trail. Destination Peru has planned private trips across Peru for 14 years. Snow holds a Master of Business Creation from the University of Utah.
Snow's tips for flying the nonstop this winter:
- Book Machu Picchu and the Inca Trail early. Permits and entry tickets sell out, and the Inca Trail closes every February.
- December and January are rainy season in the Andes. Plan for afternoon showers, not cancellations.
- Buy travel insurance the day you book. Strikes, protests and weather are only covered if you buy before they hit the news.
- Sleep low first. Spend your first nights in the Sacred Valley, which sits lower than Cusco, so the altitude is easier on day one.
